1&1 Cloud Server again takes home best price/performance ratio result in Cloud Spectator Benchmark
For the second time in a row, the American analysts from Cloud Spectator ranked 1&1 Cloud Server as the top cloud solution with the best price/performance ratio in their recent “Top 10 IaaS Providers Benchmark 2017” for North America. Following last year’s results, the 1&1 Cloud convinced analysts in all aspects and won the benchmark with an outstanding price/performance ratio. The survey compared cloud offerings of 1&1 (www.1and1.com) to similar products of cloud service vendors such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google, Rackspace and OVH. Companies considered in the benchmark must have at least one data center within North America, even if they are not headquartered in the US.
In the latest Cloud Spectator Benchmark, 1&1 achieved the highest CloudSpecs Score™, a figure implemented by Cloud Spectator that compares the price/performance ratio of the tested CSPs. Out of a possible 100, survey scores are calculated by strength of VM performance and cost value of package. Scores were also based on different sections including vCPU, Memory Value and Block Storage Value. The final CloudSpecs Score™ is a result of the average of the three categories
Cloud Spectator tested the VMs of the analyzed vendors in four different sizes ranging from 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk to 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB. Three VMs were operated per unit, meaning that a total of 12 VMs ran for a period of 24 hours, continuously pinged to receive measurement results.
“We try to be as thorough as possible to accurately represent each provider in whichever workloads are tested. This report is based on a study that collected over 1.5 million data points. Accounts were set up anonymously to eliminate the possibility of bias and three machines of each type were tested to increase the chance of testing different physical hosts. Cloud Spectator’s methodology is unique in that we built our test suite to be iterative to collect not only data on performance level, but also obtain a thorough reading on the stability of each environment” says Kenny Li, CEO of Cloud Spectator.
“That we won the recent Cloud Spectator benchmark in the US for the second time in a row proves that we continue to take our cloud product portfolio in the right direction,” says Robert Hoffmann, CEO 1&1 Internet SE. “We are excited that we now have an additional award for the best price/performance ratio underlining our aim to provide our customers with the best products at the most affordable price.”

1&1, the leading web hosting provider in Europe and one of the largest hosters worldwide (www.1and1.com), has announced it has entered a business partnership with Bitnami (www.bitnami.com), a global provider of server applications and development environments, to offer 1&1 customers access to a marketplace of popular server applications.
With more than one million visitors per month, Bitnami provides one-click deployment for over 100 open source applications and server infrastructure for selected cloud infrastructure partners. The partnership with Bitnami will enable 1&1 to offer its customers a new cloud-based server infrastructure to build and run web applications and development stacks that can be installed with just a single click. With apps available centrally and deployment times shortened, the partnership makes 1&1’s feature-rich platform even more accessible than ever before.
Robert Hoffman, CEO 1&1 Internet SE said: “We wanted to provide the very best service for building and developing in the cloud so Bitnami was a natural fit when looking for a partner. With Bitnami, our customers can benefit from faster deployment and testing as well as easier management, allowing them to innovate quicker than ever before.”
Through the partnership, 1&1 will now be able to offer cloud applications as a standalone product, which will be 100 per cent scalable, able to grow and expand as required by businesses.
“1&1 has a fantastic heritage and a very competitive cloud portfolio, having recently been featured as the product with the best price/ratio value in the ‘2016 Cloud Vendor Benchmark’ by American analysts Cloud Spectator,” said Erica Brescia, COO of Bitnami. “We are happy to offer customers a robust cloud marketplace that is backed up by best-in-class cloud infrastructure”.
Bitnami’s portal and technology for app installations will offer 1&1 customers a wide selection of the latest apps along with a ‘no minimum term’ contract and a pay-per-minute payment model offering flexibility that was not available previously. Combined with the ease of scalability and the use case optimization, customers will find it easier than ever to build apps on the cloud. The offerings also come with unlimited traffic without any additional costs – a real USP as traffic above the exempt amount has to be paid in general. The partnership will provide a consistent, secure and optimized end-user experience when deploying any app, on the 1&1 Cloud Server whether an individual designing their first application or a department of a large organizations looking for an environment where new services can be developed and deployed frequently.
1&1 Cloud Server is test winner in Cloud Spectator Benchmark
In the “Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016” by American analysts Cloud Spectator, the 1&1 Cloud Server ranked as the top cloud solution with the best pricing-performance ratio. The survey compared cloud offerings of 1&1, the leading web hosting provider in Europe (www.1and1.com), to similar products of cloud service vendors like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute, Rackspace and IBM SoftLayer. It evaluated the relative performance of virtual machines (VMs) focusing on the server components processor (vCPU), memory and disk storage.
The results in detail
Cloud Spectator tested the VMs of the analyzed vendors in four different sizes ranging from 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk to 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB. Three VMs were operated per unit, meaning that a total of 12 VMs ran for a period of 24 hours. During this time pings were continuously sent to the servers for receiving measurement results. The Cloud Spectator team recorded performance data of virtual processors, memory and storage. The result: 1&1 fully convinced the analysts in terms of pricing-performance ratio (Cloud Spectator refers to this as “Cloud Specs Score”). Especially regarding the CPU and memory performance, 1&1’s results exceeded those of competitor solutions.
The analysis shows that the 1&1 Cloud Server’s Cloud Specs Score is for example over four times as high as those of other leading vendors such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. Apart from that, 1&1 stands out in regards to no additional costs for support and traffic. Compared to other providers, 1&1 also has no fees for traffic.
“Comparing different vendors pays off as the products can vary greatly and thus, enterprises can save or spend additional expenses. In terms of price-performance value, 1&1 scores higher than the big players with its Cloud Server product”, says Danny Gee, Senior Analyst at Cloud Spectator. “The top ranking in the Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016 strengthens 1&1’s position in the cloud market.”
“We are very pleased with this excellent test result,” says Robert Hoffmann, CEO 1&1 Internet SE. “The benchmark shows that we live up to our claim of high-quality cloud services, which is now officially backed by an independent analyst firm.”
